Dewan Perniagaan dan Perusahaan Melayu Brunei (DPPMB) or Brunei Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry launched its DPPMB – The Way Forward at the DARe Design and Technology Building today. The guest of honour was Yang Mulia Dato Paduka Dr Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Finance and Deputy Chair of Darussalam Enterprise (DARe).

The event was attended by over a hundred guests comprising of senior officials from various Government Ministries, Ambassadors and High Commissioners and representatives from the Diplomatic Corps of Foreign Missions in Brunei, officers from various chambers of commerce and industry, business associations and leading corporations and even representatives from SMEs.

Dr. Hj Kamaruddin bin Dato Seri Paduka Hj Talib, the President of DPPMB and National Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said in his welcome remarks that The Way Forward is DPPMB’s response to the call of His Majesty’s Government for an empowered private sector. He stressed the need for the chamber to be inclusive, relevant and visible in serving the needs of the business community and the importance of engaging the Chamber’s significant stakeholders regularly.

In his keynote speech, Yang Mulia Dato Paduka Dr Hj Mohd Amin urged DPPMB to play a bigger role and stand out in shaping the growth of Brunei’s local businesses, continue to seek opportunities in areas of common interest and continue to promote and contribute to the development of trade and business relations for the country’s greater economic prosperity in line with the objectives of Brunei Vision 2035. He congratulated DPPMB in organizing the event and the efforts put into it by its members to pave a new way forward towards success not only for the Chamber’s members but also for all SMEs in general.

DPPMB showcased its new approach in leading the way forward for empowered Brunei Malay businesses through its focused and strategic direction on business advocacies, business expansions, capacity building, investment opportunities, consultancy support services, and networking. Presentations on key initiatives of the Chamber in supporting and promoting Brunei Malay businesses such as the Eco Kampung, cottage industry and youth projects were also shared as well as the outcome of the World Café series, an open space for the Chamber’s members and stakeholders to discuss the current challenges and needs of the business community. Inclusive public and private partnerships and collaboration by DPPMB in the national, regional and international level was also shared. The event was concluded with the perspectives of DPPMB’s evolving new image in its Way Forward by Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah bin Hj Abd Wahab, one of the advisers of DPPMB.
