National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Brunei Darussalam (NCCIBD) engages with Ambassador of Republic of Georgia

Today NCCIBD hosted a meeting between the business community and HE Nikoloz Apkazava, the Ambassador of the Republic of Georgia based in Kuala Lumpur at the K-Hub Conference Room, Tech Park, Anggerek Desa.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Hj Kamaruddin DSP Hj Talib, President of NCCIBD with representation from the business community that included lead representatives from the Brunei Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI also known as Dewan Pernigaan dan Perusahaan Melayu Brunei (DPPMB)), namely: Hj Muslim Hj Tengah, the Deputy President of BMCCI; Fauziah DSP Hj Talib, the Secretary Trade and Investment of BMCCI and Abdul Rahman Sirat, the Ast Secretary Trade and Investment of BMCCI; Thomas Koh from the Brunei Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCCC), Pg Yura Kestria PSN Pg Dr Hj M Yussof of BIMP-EAGA Business Council (BEBC) and DP Hj Hamdillah Hj Abd Wahab of the Brunei Japan Friendship Association (BJFA).

The meeting started off with a presentation on NCCIBD with highlights on the organisation’s structure and the areas of business interest for its member constituents. Consistent with the one business voice objective, NCCIBD emphasized on their role in ensuring inclusiveness, where the Brunei business community are represented under the umbrella of the national chamber. For this purpose, NCCIBD ensures that all lead Chambers, regional and bilateral business councils, industry and professional business associations, women and youth business associations are also included in engagements with foreign delegations that impacts on the development of Brunei businesses.

Thereafter HE Nikoloz Apkazava presented on “Invest in Georgia”, highlighting the various opportunities available to the Brunei business community in Georgia, namely in infrastructure development such as Business Process Outsourcing, Hospitality & Real Estate, Manufacturing, Regional Logistics Corridor and energy.

Informal discussions led to further elaborations on the ease of doing business in Georgia, a country that is ranked in 2-17, in the top 10 of 190 countries on “Starting a Business” and “Registering a Property”. HE Nikoloz Apkazava also shared the mechanism placed on FDI selections in Georgia where the process took into consideration of how these investments complements the strength of the country and ensure a balance that benefits the country. Overall the meeting gave the business community present a first taste of the type of trade and investment opportunities that would be of interest to Brunei businesses, and it was agreed that we would need to keep the conversation flowing between HE Nikoloz and Brunei businesses.

The meeting concluded on the potential of future foreign business delegations visits from Georgia and the establishment of a Memorandum of understanding between NCCIBD and Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.




The National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Brunei Darussalam (NCCIBD) - The Brunei Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI also known as DPPMB) established NCCIBD in 1985.

BMCCI saw the need to put into one umbrella organization the various chambers of commerce and business associations in the country and was instrumental in the formation of the NCCIBD. At present, lead representatives from BMCCI and the Brunei Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCCC) govern NCCIBD, and as of 2015 Dr Hj Kamaruddin DSP Hj Talib leads the organisation as its President for both the Malay and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
